Delta Electrics wins $18 million dollar GIS project with Power and Water Corporation
Fri, 24 June 2011
Delta Electrics continues to grow its multi-million dollar Projects Division with a successful bid for a major project involving the supply of high voltage gas insulated switchgear (GIS) for Power and Water Corporation (PWC). A team of Delta Electrics electricians will be involved in the installation process which involves several PWC sub-stations. The value of the project over 3 years is $18 million.
The term 'switchgear' refers to the combination of electrical equipment that can connect and disconnect electrical circuits and involves fuses and/or circuit breakers that are used to isolate electrical equipment so that work to be done on the equipment. Switchgear also protects the power supply from interruptions caused by short-circuits or overload fault currents and can enhance system availability by allowing more than one source to feed a load.
This type of equipment is critically important to the operation of a power grid because it is directly linked to the reliability of the electricity supply.
Delta Electrics, in combination with our supply partners Siemens, are proud to provide PWC with such critically important equipment to help ensure that the residents of Darwin have a secure and reliable power supply.
