Delta Electrics to install solar power systems on 22 NT schools

BP Solar logoAnother major project that Delta Electrics has recently won is a tender to install solar power systems on schools in the Northern Territory. Over the next couple of months Delta Electrics will be installing solar power systems on 22 schools in the NT involving schools in the Darwin city area and others in remote communities such as Alyangula, Barunga, Borroloola and Nhulunbuy.

The 22 solar systems will generate a combined total of about 260,000kWh of solar electricity per annum or enough electricity to power about 40 average homes. This power, where the schools are connected to the mains power, will be fed back into the NT power grid helping reduce the Territory's reliance upon non-renewable power generation resources (nearly all the power generated in the NT comes from burning natural gas).

A monitoring system will be installed at each school so that students and teachers can track the amount of solar power their school is generating. The project provides students and teachers with a hands-on demonstration of solar power and the important part this technology can play in meeting our energy demands into the future and reducing our greenhouse emissions.
